A great opportunity to learn about urban agriculture, explore innovative case studies from the UK and Europe, and share in creating an exciting vision of resilient systems for urban food production across Sheffield and the emerging City Region. Introduction – Gareth Roberts, Regather
A brief introduction to the event including an initial response to the question 'what is urban agriculture?' and an overview of some existing examples of urban agriculture in Sheffield.
Sustainable Food Cities – Leon Ballin, Soil Association
Leon Ballin is Sustainable Food Cities Network Manager. He has experience in multi-setting approaches to food and a background in developing food plans, food growing, food labelling, food co-ops and nutrition. He will outline the Sustainable Food Cities approach, highlight relevant national case studies to compare and contrast with Sheffield, and explore how as part of a city wide food partnership the development of urban agriculture in Sheffield could help make Sheffield a Sustainable Food City.
R Urban – Doina Petrescu, School of Architecture, University of Sheffield
Doina Petrescu is Professor of Architecture and Design Activism at the University of Sheffield and co-founder of atelier d'architecture autogeree / aaa (urbantactics.org). She will introduce the urban agriculture policy in Paris and the project R-Urban, a framework of participatory urban resilience initiated by aaa in the Metropolitan Paris, involving networks of collective hubs to support resilience practices and civic initiatives, including urban agriculture (R-Urban.net)
Urban Agriculture in Sheffield – Gareth Roberts, Regather
Gareth Roberts is a Founder Member and Director of Regather Co-Op. He will outline Regather's ongoing community economic development work, the emergence of market gardening and urban agriculture in Sheffield and the role of commercial horticulture, community food growing, technological innovation and partnership working in creating a shared vision of sustainable urban agriculture in Sheffield.
